Research center

The Interdepartmental Multimedia Research Center on Ancient Theatre (CRIMTA) was established in 2000 at the University of Pavia, in collaboration with the Department of Classical Studies and the Department of Computer Science and Systems Engineering.

The Center’s mission is to foster a multidisciplinary approach to the study of ancient theatre, integrating literary and historical analysis of texts with the investigation of the reception of classical drama in contemporary performance and culture. In addition to its research activities, the Center promotes creative projects of textual rewriting and the application of digital resources to the study of productions of ancient dramatic works.

The Center maintains a database consisting of video recordings of classical performances and is supported by the Laboratory of Ancient Drama, which annually organizes seminars and workshops devoted to specific texts and themes pertaining to ancient Greek theatre.
